A first for Toyota, this system can allocate up to 50% of engine torque to the rear wheels and distribute it between the left and right rear wheels for exceptional control. When not needed, the system efficiently channels all driving force to the front wheels, reducing energy loss, improving fuel efficiency, and enhancing ride smoothness.

STOP & START ENGINE SYSTEM

RAV4 LE and XLE models include a Stop & Start engine system designed to boost fuel economy, particularly in city driving with frequent stops and starts. The system automatically halts the engine when the vehicle comes to a temporary stop, such as at traffic signals, and restarts it when you release the brake pedal.
